24 hours prior to applying the haired lime first coat the laths were soaked by spray on both sides.. This was repeated prior to applying the plaster

 

 

Lime plaster for first and second coat is delivered premixed but requires softening down.

With the addition of horse hair to reinforce the plaster

 

 

     

First coating the lath

 

    

The first coating is cross scratched to proved a key for the next coat at this stage the plaster is kept moist with a mist spray and warm drafts excluded

 

   

Once the first coat has gained enough strength the second coat is applied using the screed and fill to straighten the ceiling

 

The second coat is devil floated to provide a key for the finishing coat and kept moist for 4-5 days with a spray mist

 

The finishing coat in this three coat lime plaster ceiling is applied after the mouldings have been fitted
