The west gable wall window lintels and joist ends had to be replaced due to rot eradication worksOur first job was to save the ornate precast fibrous plaster pilasters and columns - fibrous plaster was introduced into Britain at the turn of the last century and would have been added after the initial building was erected.Removal of the pilasters to allow rot eradication works
Column removal for fire protection treatment to the cast iron columnsThese columns were manufactured in two halves with separate bases and capitols. The double columns were fitted to a fibrous plaster casing in lieu of wood lath and lime plaster backing: this was the forerunner to plasterboard. This method was used from early 1900's to after the second world war when plasterboard became available. This is the original jute scrim used in the manufacture of the fibrous plasterwork from 100 years ago. The original precast labelled and laid aside to be reused
